When Steve Rogers realizes that the Sentinels are piloted by real people, he and his forces go underground. Captain America dons a suit of Iron Man armor to combat these new Sentinels. Meanwhile, Jim Rhodes is put in charge of the new Sentinel O.N.E. Several die, forcing Captain America's forces to regroup. In response, Henry Peter Gyrich sends a horde of Sentinels to attack the heroes. All of Marvel's heroes unite under Captain America, forming an anti-registration movement. Captain America tries but fails to stave off the law. With Tony Stark gone, there is no one around with the skill to negotiate with congress about the Superhuman Registration Act. In this version of the story, Iron Man dies of the Extremis virus. One alternate take on Civil War is featured during "What If Captain America Led All the Heroes Against Registration ," by Kevin Grevioux and Gustavo. With these ramifications in mind, Civil War could have taken a couple of different directions, as revealed in 2008's What If? Civil War. ![]() ![]() Heroes were turned against heroes and a massive rift was created which took years to heal. ![]() In the Marvel Universe, Civil War was a major turning point.
